Waterfront is always one of my favorite hang out place, from HK’s Victoria Harbour to TO’s Ontario Lake, and now SG’s Singapore River. It is always so calming an relaxing to sit and enjoy the view there. Last week, after having lunch at Boat Quay, I walked across the bridge to join other sketchers around the Asian Civilisations Museum to sketch. I sat outside this IndoChine restaurant, which is located at one wing of the ACM. I think there was a banquet or function going on, as I kept hearing musics and people singing while I sketch.
This is the view from where I was sitting.. I drew it on a 2.5×5.5″ smooth paper first, and then on the A5 sketch book.
There were many tourists around that area, some came over to peek at my work. After sketching outdoor so many times, I’m more used to it now. I would smile back and may even chat with them. Most people are very friendly and would say very encouraging words. As I was sketching, the sky gets darker and darker, and I saw a black cloud moving towards my location, so I decided to pack my stuff and find a shelter.
The rain came when I was walking to the Art House. I was glad that I escaped the rain, as it was pouring and umbrella wouldn’t help! I took my time to check out the exhibitions at the Art House, and finally decided to sketch the Victoria Concert Hall from the window of the second floor.
I was stuck at the Art House for more than an hour because of the rain. I then walked to the Raffles City to grab a bite when the rain stopped. The shopping mall is already dressed up for Christmas. I can’t resist to make a quick sketch of the decoration while eating. I was supposed to meet up with other sketchers at the end of the day but my phone’s battery died and I couldn’t contact them. Nevertheless, it was a productive day for me, and it feels great sketch outdoor again.
